Due to a selfdestructing front camchain guide, I need to clean the oil screen that is at the bottom of the oil pump. Question is: how do I get it out? It doesn't seem to be screwed in there, nor does it seem to be a press-fit. It looks like it has a lip that fits in a crevice at the bottom of the oil pump, but it is difficult to be sure. Since the screen is undamaged, and the rest of the engine is now clean, I'd like to get it out of there to clean it and then reinstall. New ones are expensive (as usual). Does anyone have experience with removing/installing this screen?

The debris is really quite small. In all there are maybe fifteen small (less than a mm, just a tiny bit larger than the mesh of the filter) pieces in there. But you're right, I should definitely check the pump.

remember oil pumps pump oil not metal shavings, doesnt take much to chew up gears.these motors run minimal oil pressure to begin with so any extra gouges in those gears doesnt help

Still, it would be nice to know how to remove the oil screen without ruining it. Anybody know how it is fixed in there?
