Hi Guys,

Hey I need to replace a stator cover on a 1980 KZ1000 E2 model and was wondering what covers will fit.

My parts fiche states that the part number for my cover is 14031-1015 & cross referenced it fits the following models:
A3 - A3A - A4
B4
C3 - C4
D3
E1 - E2

I am having a difficult time finding a cover that doesn't cost and arm and a leg, does anyone know if a 79 (B3)cover will fit? I have found one that is reasonably priced and is located in my area and was wondering what the differences in this cover could be since my parts fiche states that it wont fit.

I would appreciate any input form some of you that have had experience swapping stator covers on these bikes.

Thanks,
Rick

If u can see a pic of the cover it should be obvious. some correct me if i'm wrong .
the 73 to 78 Z1 KZ covers look the same and are interchangable.
the 79, 80 covers should all be the same in aperance, but very dif than previous covers.then came the J's then GPZ.
So your 80(and 79's) will look dif than the other models. if u find 1 that looks like yours, it will fit.

79 B3 LTD's don't have a MKll engine- that's why the stator covers won't fit your E model shaft drive.Different crankshaft ends and stators.

You must use a MKII or an ST engine cover. The earlier engines had a completely different alternator unit and will not work and the "J" series engine that actually did have the same stator will not work either. But the latter I am not 100% sure about. See if the stator for the "J" and the MKII are the same if they are you might have a chance with a "J" cover.

Thank you all for your replies. Both Jack and otakar what you state does make it clear to me now. I have located a cover from a "1980 Police Bike C3" that should work according to my parts fiche. What do you think?

That answered that question, because that is definitely a "J" cover. This also poses an interesting option. If a MKII or "J" rotor can be mounted on a KZ900/1000 Crank Shaft than a 20A alternator could be mounted on an earlier 73-78 bike.

j cranks and mk11 cranks have a 25 mm end and early models from 73 to 78 and some 79's have a 22 mm end on the rotor side which they won't interchange. speaking of which does anybody have a 22 mm remote starter nut for sale.
