Hey gang. I am well under way with my engine upgrade...okay...I'm re-restoring the bike again. I am either a glutton for punishment or just plain addicted to playing with my old 650. I think the latter.
My question is this. Any opinions on which throttle cable will be required? I have ordered Mikuni 28 carbs from WG and they will be mated to the stock 650 head. My hope is that I can use the stock 650 throttle cables that I put on last summer.
Any advice would be appreciated.

1977 Kz 650 Custom - (Miss July in the 2006 Kzrider calendar.) Wiseco 810 kit, Kz750 cams, Kz750 intake valves, 750 GPz springs, Ported head, WG Mikuni 28's, Dyna Ignition and coils, MAC pipe, 13 tooth sprocket. Going back to original '77 Moon Dust Silver. Goal is to have a stock-looking bike that will tighten up any loose dental fillings off the light.

I going to think you'll be one of the first to try some of the mods and will be of help to many in the future.

I think you should ask Wiredgeorge, I think he installs the carbs on his own bike and runs them prior to shipment, so I bet he can tell you from memory what, if anything, you need to do with the cables

Thanks Rob and Steve-The bike is shaping up to be a compilation of input from many many members who have answered my tech questions with previous postings and current threads. Maybe when I am done I will write a little overview of what I did right (and wrong) so others will have an idea on what to do if they want to do a similar upgrade to their middleweight K bikes.
I just want something that is bulletproof and will keep my crotch rocket riding buddies wondering how this old bike can keep them in my sights. I still haven't told any of them what I am doing....I'll save that for the first time I light it up with them at a light:)
I'll fire off an email to George and get his input on the cables and carb boot suggestion while I am at it.

Should be the same, they all use the push pull throttle right?

There are different push/pull cables for different carbs. I know that the 79 KZ650SR cable won't fit on the 83 GPz750 carbs because the part on the carbs that the cable attaches to is different, my nephew took the cables and throttle assembly off my GPz750 to use on his GPz750 powered KZ650SR because of that. I don't know what others are different.Should be the same, they all use the push pull throttle right?

Hi Guys,
I've have been using a Z1300 throttle assembly and cables on my z650 for years, with stock 24mm carbs then 26mm carbs and now (using only 1 cable) on the fuel injection. I changed to the 1300 one after I had bashed the steel bends on the 650 unit into the tank when I had a set of drag bars on the bike the cables come out of the top off the assembly and not the bottom.
Cheers
Dave
