81 csr 1000 m1. first off all i have found a ton of threads on this bike and exhaust but not the answers i am looking for. I am going to get an exhaust header and pipe. I thought i was set on a v&h megaphone until i read all of the threads pertaining to this topic. First will exhaust for a kz 1000 j fit my bike. i know it is a j motor, but all of these websites when directly putting in a 81 csr 1000 dont come up with nearly the same amount of options. second, some of the feedback on the v&h megaphone exhaust say that the v&h will scrape on tight turns and neg camber and downhill turns. Frankly this TURNS me off to the idea of a v&h. Third i do like the sound of a mac exhaust and I also like the cannister setup they have, i do not like the sound of the feedback of the finish on the pipes though. I am waiting for a response from them to tell me if the chrome header from the megaphone setup will fit the chrome cannister muffler. I would really like an all chrome setup. I cannot afford a $700 kerker, and they are becoming increasingly rare. I paid $800 for the bike but she is the most beutifull bike i have seen (to me).I am so lost in the search for an exhaust right now, i have the money for one setup right now and it is burning a hole in my pocket, I am actually losing sleep over it. The main prob i have with mac is that right on the website it says that the black header that is part of the cannister setup is easily touched up with vht paint, why do they need to tell me that? basically i have not found one system that is practical in price and form and function. F WTF. Please help, I need to order asap, the summers in upstate NY are short and i want her to pur.

I did exactly that with my MAC pipe. I matched their Chrome header to the chrome cannister. It will fit no problem on your bike. The MAC mount is truly universal.

sweet well i guess i'll have to call mac asap and buy it through them, i wonder if i can call dennis kirk and mix and match because a. their prices are cheaper than macs msrp(prob because they are bought in bulk)b. I need a helmet and would love to save on shipping for both, thanks again, for some more reasurrance, how long did it take for the chrome to start flaking on your pipe and have you heard that vance & hines megaphone setup will drag on hard turns, I am not turning that hard yet but probably soon, confidence in the bike and the bridgestone spitfires grow every time i ride. on a funny note, my father (used to own a Z1 classic, had the bottom of the engine chromed so everyone would know it was him doing wheelies all over syracuse, and my sister went for a ride with him and said what was that scraping noise when u turned dad, as he looks at me) so he rides it and def scrapes pegs, will the v&h scrape under hard cornering, thanks for the helpful input again otokar

talked to z1 enterprises about this confusing situation and they said that they never and dont sell mac and stopped selling v&h because and i quote " the quality of both is questionable at best" and that "we wont represent ourselves with qestionable products" he said that v&h sent them too many systems that were sub par with sub par welds, they dont want to do anything to resolve the quality issue so they stopped carrying them. Neddless to say i was very reluctant in buying a very expensive kerker system but i just had to backorder one and thats that

running a Vance and Hines sidewinder on my 82 KZ 1000 CSR.Had to modify the brake pedal to fit over the footpeg, and am running solid footpegs cause the V and H melted my stock rubber one.Lol.Pipe does not scrape. My foot pegs do when I really lay it over on the twisties but never scraped the pipe. I have a baffle in it and it sounds great.Got it off EBay for cheap.Chrome looks great so--- do what u want I guess.bj

I bought mine right from MAC. They gave me a really good price and I am very happy with it. I see no problems with MAC chrome.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationyou buy one and either it lines right up or you get a small piece of aluminum and make a small hanger.....

here is a great price on a great header.....

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationanother great deal...these headers all either line right up or you make a small hanger.....imo...

the exhuast ports and sweep on a z-1 and kz 1000 and kz1000J are the same only the thickness of the studs and all will fit through the aftermarket header ....

they can all be made to work
