I have a recently purchased 1979 KZ650 C3 and finally got it started the other day. I went to time it last night and had a question...

Normally when you throw a timing light on the advancer, it makes the advancer looks still so that the F mark looks stationary. Well on the 1/4 side, that was exactly what it did, but on the 2/3 side, the line looks like it wobbles about 2mm back and forth. Could carb sync be doing that or is there another issue I might want to be considering?

Have you tried switching the Timing Light wire from the #3 to the #2 spark plug wire? I'm wondering if you have a bad connection on the 2&3 circuit that is causing the spark to fire early or late.

Yeah, same thing. I did find out last night that the #2 carb would not sync. I pulled the carb bank off last night and cleaned it out nice and thoroughly. Tonight I am going to be setting the floats and doing a bench sync. Once that is done, I will put the carbs back on and see if the sync is helping. I doubt it, but I have seen stranger things.:S
