motor...will this work was created by kool4kawis
HI, I'M A NEW MEMBER. I'VE BEEN LOOKING AROUND AND ALREADY GOT SOME GREAT INFO AND IDEAS. STARTING A NEW PROJECT FROM SCRATCH AND SINCE I DON'T HAVE A DONOR BIKE I'M WONDERING IF THIS MOTOR COMBO WILL WORK.
'81 KZ1000 J CASES
'83 KZ1000 J CYLINDERS
1075 PISTON KIT 12:1 CR
'84 GPZ 1100 HEADS
I KNOW I'LL HAVE TO GET THE PARTS NESSASARY TO MAKE THE HEADS WORK WITH THE BOTTOM END.
ALSO HAS ANYONE EVER RUN A SINGLE CARB SETUP, IF SO HOW BIG A CARB WOULD IT REQUIRE, I WAS THINKING ABOUT A MIKUNI 42

ALREADY PICKED UP A COMPLETE '04 ZX636 FRONT END FOR 200.00 OFF E-BAY AND GONNA GET THE REAR SET UP OFF THE SAME BIKE. CAN I MAKE THESE WORK WITHOUT ANY OUT OF THE ORDINARY COMPLICATIONS( I KNOW IT'S NOT A BOLT UP PROCEDURE).

THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE...DON'T WANT TO BUY PARTS THAT CAN'T BE MADE TO WORK.

YOU GUYS HAVE SOME GREAT LOOKIG BIKES POSTED, YOU'VE INSPIRED ME TO CREATE MY OWN BEAST.

12:1 pistons seem a bit high for street riding. I personally would stick with (and did) the 10.5:1 pistons if meant to be a street bike. Not sure on the rest, that's what jumped out at me...

All the parts you list are derived from the 'J' so will all bolt straight on.
Single carb should be no problem, Most common size on turbo's is 42mm mikuni so should be plenty big enough normally aspirated.
I run a 42mm pumper Keihin on my supercharger and it runs fine even with the blower drive disconnected.
Once fitted a single SU from a reliant robin to a GS550 for a laugh,
Results were better MPG but slightly lower top speed only due to the carbs small choke bore size and probably poor manifold design (Just made it from old tubing - log style- because of space restrictions).

Here's some inspiration :)

One thing you may want to look into is the compatability of your pistons to the 84 GPZ cylinder head. The 84 GPZ head has the bathtub style combustion chambers and the piston crowns may need to be massaged to fit / work properly.Wiseco, for example, don't even list a 1075 for the 84 GPZ.

Personally, I wouldn't go 12-1 for a street bike.

I heard that the combustion shape on the GPZ head caused a 2 point drop in CR, thats was my reasoning for going with a 12:1 pistons. thought that it would net a 10:1 in the end.

You are correct with the 2 point drop but only if using the geep head on the earlier style Z900/1000 motor.

The earlier heads have a 66mm dia spherical combustion chamber whereas the later heads, 1000J and GPZ1100 etc are 70mm .

I have used an 8 plugged 1000J head on my Supercharged 1000A which was a late decision in the motor build and i already had my 8-1 turbo pistons fitted.

I managed to skim it by a max of 1.3mm to get the comp back up (somewhere around 7.5)but knew i could compensate by running the blower a bit faster.

According to your list you are using all later J based components ? so the comp drop is not an issue.
