I need a 13mm shim that is smaller than 2.05. I have not found a source for any smaller and really dont want to pull head and disassemble to cut down 1 valve tip for clearance. Any help would be great. Motor is 1075 with Web cams

I think the reason they don't go any smaller is because they can crack if they get too thin.

2.05 is the thinnest made. If you require thinner, that means that you are way overdue for a valve job, or if you have just done one, you forgot to grind the valve stems.

Call Web Cams, they have some thinner shims available. I thin down to 185.

Problem is from the buckets most likely. Measure the thickness, they're either going to be .100" or abour .118". If they're aftermarket, purchased new in the last couple of years, they'll probably be the thicker ones.

Measure right on the button underneath when you check them.

Anyone ordering aftermarket cams should take note of this.

If you get cams that require shim on bottom & you're getting new buckets. Ask whoever your're getting them from to measure the thickness.

If you're not pulling the head for porting or valve work, see where you are in shim sizes. If your new buckets are going to be the thicker buckets, subtract 9 shim sizes from what you currently have.

If that puts you way down there close to 200 shim size, discuss getting the cams with a 1.080" base circle with the grinder. Most cams can be ground with reduced base circles. That would get you past the hurdle. :)

Eg:

Say you currently have 265 shims with stock buckets and stock cams. You're new buckets are in the .118" thickness range. Stock ones are .100". That's .018" less clearance you would have with new buckets if the cams are the same 1.110 base circle. That equals 9 shim sizes [roughly]

So from a 265, 9 shim sizes is 220.

IMO, most people with street motors waste their money when they buy cams that require S.O.B setup. There are so many good grinds available that can run S.O.T. and it pays other benefits as well.

1 - less chance of stripping out bolt holes at valve adjustment time because the cams stay in the motor.
2 - saves money on retainers
3- saves money on buckets
4- I've never seen lobes fail on cams that run S.O.T. adjustment.....

If a guy wants those long duration cams [260 @.050] with over .400 lift, there's only one way to go IMO...Cam Motion Z4 grind. They have .420" lift and KEEP SHIM ON TOP.
