I've got an 82 750. The guy I bought it from had a jimmy rigged oil cooler on it, It looked like it anyways.. I've never seen an oil cooler hooked up like this before. There is a large banjo type fitting under the ignition cover on the right side of the engine. And another odd looking fitting on the right rear of the oil pan. And some rubber hose that was drooped along the frame to the cooler which is mounted under the triple tree.

This is the fitting on the back of the pan

And here is the other

Are those a stock type piece? Can I just plug those two points with another solid plug? Will it hurt to plug them? I just don't know... Keep the cooler or not?

You can plug them, they're not stock. But they are how you go about connecting an oil cooler to a 650/750. The only other way is to get a GPz750 oil pan and cooler, that's the way I went.

It's a shunt cooler that taps off a bit of oil (and oil pressure) at the high pressure output after the pump and runs it through a cooler then back into the pan.

I would love to run a cooler. I'm just not to sure how to run the lines, or what type of line is best. Right now I just have some new rubber tranny line connecting it, it's hanging below the bike for now. I just needed to get the bike running. Any ideas on what would be best?

Tranny lines should be fine for oil and just zip tie the lines to the frame.

I have a spare complete GPz1100 factory cooler if you are interested. I'm not sure however if the 750's can use the 1100's style junction block that bolts to the top of the crankcase for the lines...

The GPz750 cooler attached to the oil pan itself on the front of the engine, I doubt a GPz1100 one would it.

I'm trying to figure out a way to plug them. I don't like the way I have to route the line so close to the exhaust. Last thing I want is to be stuck between Salt Lake City and Wendover from a burned through oil line... I cant find any solid replacements for these, do you think I will be able to clean them and scuff them and throw some JB Weld to close them up?

The last thing I want to trust is JB weld to secure a oil passage.
look at some stainless steel braded lines, earls makes them and you can prob find the stuff at a custom hot rod shop or spec, hose place.

my 1000 has the lines run up under the tank and then to the cooler, they do kind of get close to the header but I have never had any issues.

If your bound and dertermined to plug them off, you can cut the line close to the fitting, shove a bolt in the line and secure it with a couple of hose clamps

There are factory plugs for those galleries. That's the way it came from factory. Am sure even the ZR-7 plugs would work. The ZR-7 was sold until recently(2004?)and had basically same KZ750/650 engine.

I have a '91 Zephyr 750 oil pan available with the oil lines and the rear gallery plugged. If you are interested, drop me a line.

Yeah I know there are factory plugs for these, my brother has them in his '81. My only problem is that the kawi dealer is full of incompetent tards that can't tell the difference between fingers and toes. I tried to find a plug for the pan at an auto parts store but all I could find was a 3/8 Pipe thread plug, and these are a little bit finer thread. My favorite plumbing store couldn't even help me...

Thanks for all the awesome advice! I think for now I'm going to cut them short and shove a bolt in there.
