Ouch ! My bike runs great, Clutch not so much.
1975 Z1 I took it out after a long layup yesterday
everything went well until I came to a stop and try-ed to pull away. In First gear clutch felt normal started to release it, clutch almost fully out and nothing I thought it must be in neutral then Bang!! clutch grabs hard and has continued to grab.

I have adj clutch push rod and cable and are free moving. Clutch lever feels normal in and out, so the question is what would make clutch stick and then suddenly release with the clutch springs compressed ??

Could it be notches in the clutch basket fingers from an aftermarket clutch? The disks will hang up on the notches until the right combination of rpm, pressure, vibration, or whatever causes them to release. At that point you get instant full clutch engagement. My .02

Thanks for all your info guys. I pulled the clutch plates and found 35 years of crud sticking to the plates and disks.
Its a wonder that it worked at all.
I just placed an order for a clutch kit.
Thank you for the help
