kz200 service manual engine overheating etc was created by fiendlybrds
Hey all, on about a 60 mile ride i noticed a DRASTIC loss of power intermittently. i would be able to go about 65-70 on my kz200 for a few miles, then as soon as a hill came up, it would struggle like i have never experienced. couldn't get it to go over 50 at that point. i would pull over, let it cool off, and it would be good again...for a bit.
again this morning i was having this problem, but this time more frequently and drastically. until i jsut said that it was unsafe to drive, and it would not go any longer.
another weird side note, there is this fine red dust all over, (even inside the points cover) that was not there before. almost like rust dust, not sure though.
any ideas, or a proper service manual for my bike would be appreciated.

tl;dr kz200 over heating- loss of power, possible timing issue? clutch? troubleshooting tips?

thanks -joe

Might be fuel starvation due to vapor lock resulting from obstructed vent in fuel tank cap. Could test run with fuel cap ajar (not snapped down), to determine whether obstructed vent is an issue.

There are also other reasons which can cause impaired fuel flow resulting in fuel starvation, such as clogged petcock or clogged in-line fuel filter, crud inside fuel tank, etc.

Good Fortune! :)

Is there possibly a cylinder head or crankcase breather which might be plugged ?

For sure...

Make certain float bowls are filling completely!
Use the "clear tube" method to measure fuel height.
