Exhaust studs

Hey all, just wondering if someone could shed some light on something for me. I want to get some new exhaust studs before my head gets here from Mr C. But they're listed as M6x27. It doesn't give a total length or anything. Can someone give me the real dimensions of these studs? Thanks.

Actually never mind, mods you can delete this. I'm gonna wait and see if I need a different size than stock because of the new header.

Yeah I can get stock ones easily enough, I was just wondrin what size to tell them when I go to the local fasteners place. They always have what I need, and its cheaper and faster than ordering stock parts online.

Without really knowing, I'd check into seeing if 8mm studs can be used - they'd be stouter than the puny stockers - I cringe whenever I tighten them down.

Oh it wouldn't be hard to drill and tap for 8mm studs. Looks like there's plenty of space. I was just thinking this myself.

Haven't seen anything about this in a while, but new exhaust studs used to be listed and described as having "interference fit" threads on the end that screws into the head. And cautioned to be sure they were correctly oriented when installed. Also warned that similar hardware store items didn't have the requisite "interference fit."

Might be hallucinating, but vaguely recall some years ago that Z1E carried the interference fit variety.

Am guessing this was supposed to allow the nut to be removed without turning the stud.
Must have been in the days before Hi-temp Loctite (if there is such a thing).

Meanwhile, it's back to the peanut gallery.

Good Fortune. :)

From my experience exhaust studs usually seize into place quickly anyways haha.

I have a 650 head with M8 studs... there are no issues in doing that modification.

If you try to get the studs at a local fastener place you might get some blank stares... I ended up getting mine from a local place that works on old air cooled VW engines.

Do KZ1000 motors use M8 studs? never checked...

I have no experience with this related to Kawasaki and will bow to the knowledge of someone wiser, but I know that VW used small head studs because they will expand/ contract at a rate similar to the head /case material. . .
Bigger isn't always better.
