very very annoying oil issue was created by Captaingamez
Basically the issue is with the crankcase breathing. i took the original breather off and fitted a shorter kz550 breather without the internals. i then routed that to a breater filter. ran fine for about 7 miles on the freeway, then the filter blew oil everywhere

put a catch tank on it, same issue

blocked off the breather and breathed it out of the starter hole. riding distance increases to about 15 miles then blows oil everywhere

put a catch tank on that - same issue

i have a stock internals motor with a light port job on the head, and 4-1 exhaust, and pod filters, re-jetted, ect.

just rebuilt the bike, using different gear ratios on 530 chain.

really wish i could get this fixed, with the newly built frame this thing handles amazing but thats useless if i cant ride it nonstop without issue.

thanks.

This is either caused by too much crankcase pressure, ie cylinder blow by, or by too much oil in your crankcase.

my compression isn't amazing but its not bad, and the engine runs absolutely perfect on top of that, if this were the case wouldn't it do it when it was cold more than when its hot?

and this happens when the engine is low on oil as well as above level

If it was just rebuilt, I wonder if there might be a collapsed/broken piston ring letting it blow by there. I don't know where else the pressure could be coming from.

did you use one piece head gasket or a two piece when the motor got built. if one piece then you may have a problem with the oring groove in the center of the cylinder what did you do top fill that area in if it's not oil or heat resistant then it could have pushed out. if you used a two piece then you may have a problem with the center oring being cut or deformed some way when it was in stalled either one of those situations can cause what your describing. it can allow an improper seal on the two center cylinders and allow combustion pressure to blow past and down the cam chain tunnel pushing the oil out, also recheck the cylinder head tourque the best way to figure out where the problem is occuring is with a leak down test.

so are you telling me that this has nothing to do with the breather modifications i have done?

i used a 2 piece i ordered from z1 with the o ring for the tunnel.
i haven't re-torqued the head yet but will do immediately.

and, wouldnt any of these problems cause the engine to run improperly? and wouldnt the crankcase smelling at least faintly of gas, or burnt gas?

if you have a problem with a gasket sometimes you will hear a sound that sounds alot like birds chirpping. i have done that same mod to a few different engines to gain room for bigger carbs and i haven't had any thing bad happen because of it, myself that is it a fairly routine job that has been done on hundreds of bikes.

Drop your oil level some, and recheck.

I have seen newly built engines blow by alot in the first 30 or so miles.

GET IT HOT, RIDE IT HARD.
