no spark, gas overflowing through drains was created by runningtat
hi all new to the site...1977 kz650 will not start for the season...took the carbs apart cleaned them,cleaned the gap at the point and spent 3 hours trying to get the carbs back on the bike...anyway... bike still will not start...no spark, gas overflowing through the drains.....need serious help....

Welcome, first off, the needles and seats are not sealing, could be that you need new ones or a complete kit, it also can be that the floats are set too high, either way the carbs will prob need to come back off.
Make sure you have NEW plugs and NEW fuel filter in line, you may have a lot of trash in the tank that is getting back into the carbs.

No spark? Got 12 volts on the Positive coil terminal? You said you "Cleaned" the point gap, is it set correctly? Did you remove the wires off of the terminal and miss install it so it is grounded all of the time? Pull the negative wire off at the coil and check to see that the wire makes and breaks contact to ground as the motor turns by hand.
Listen to the other guys and clean your tank, put in an in line filter and get some carb kits with new needle and seats get the float level correct. Make sure to get the Idle and transfer circuit really clean as this is most of the poor running issues. Get or make a carb sync tool, sync em good.
