1984 Kz550 Cylinder 3 missing, can't find the prob was created by cccampbe
Hi guys,
Once I again I seek the knowledge of the experts.
I recently tore down the top end of my 1984 kz550 shafty and replaced gaskets and put it back together. I also took the carbs apart to paint them. When I put it back together and sorted out some vacuum issues, I still couldn't get it to run properly.
It sounded and seemed to me that one cylinder was missing and the idle was all over the place. I got a motorcycle mechanic that works next door to sync the carbs and mess with the plugs to see what he could figure out. After syncing the carbs and replacing fouled plugs the bike ran well for a short time. After it got warmed up cylinder 3 started missing again.
We are gonna try switching the coils to make sure that they are not the problem. But if they aren't the problem we are not sure where to go next other than inside the head. My manual made rebuilding the head very simple and I'm sure I got the timing and everything set up right. Any ideas on what I may have going on here?
I know this is long and I apologize, I just want this thing to run right, it was a gift from my father and I want to be able to ride with him when I get home for summer.
Thanks in advance guys,
Clay

Valve clearances been checked? Switched sparkplug caps? Good spark at #3? Good fuel delivery? Float level been checked? Good compression?

All good ideas...
Mixture screws adjusted correctly?
Carbs are assembled perfectly?
ABSOLUTELY no air leaks from air filter to exhaust end?
GL!
