oil lite comming on was created by fochtup1
hello, i have an 81 kz 1100 shaft and the other day the oil lite started to come on at about 3000rpms very dim and will go off below and above 4k. does not do it all the time and never at idle. change the oil and filter tonight and still happened when i took it out. last night it started after i hit a rough spot on the road, that was a three mile trip. this morning rode to work about 10-15 miles was at work for about an hour then rode back home 10-15 miles and it did not come on. i am guessing a bad sending unit but whats your opinions.
thanks, justin

Might want to check the connection where the wire attaches to sending unit. Ed

If your oil sending unit is designed and operates similar to the KZ900/1000 units...

This is a pressure switch where if pressure is low, it will stay grounded to the frame henceforth, oil lamp on....

Example, first turn on the ignition switch, pressure is null, lamp turns on... Once started, pressure forces the spring/contact up to disengage engine ground thus oil lamp turns off.

Again, this is for the KZ900/1000 models and yours may be different... Best wise to confirm in your service manual for operations.

Just a thought....
