want to make KZ1000 faster was created by KZ1000CSRman
How can I make my 1982 CSR1000 any faster than stock? Are there any tricks or cheap modifications I can do to it?

speed costs money.
how fast do you want to go?

cheapest little hop up is pods, rejetting and a header.
it just snowballs from there.

someday i will be able to afford my kz habit.

Cheaper than that is upgrading your cams...may not sound cheaper but you have the weakest cams in the KZ1000 lineup, you can get some J cams for free (I did) or 2 different kinds of GPz cams that will drop into your bike. The GPz ones may be a little money, but for the cost of some throwaway cams and a gasket you can go faster.

Here's a little inspiration from 1979:

When trying to decide on the components you want to use for a rebuild project, take some time to consider how the components interact and effectively contour the behavior of the engine.
Remember the 3 ways to improve performance are:

Make it bigger
Spin it faster
Make it more efficient
The actual practice is to consider all 3 methods and from them determine if you will get the result you desire from just performing 1 of the 3 methods.

In the case of the big block, performing method 1, yields nice gains down low and in the middle but leaves the motor starving for enough air to fill the cylinders at the upper regions of the power band.

This also plays into the budget scenario. It costs far less to put together a 1075 with a good cylinderhead than it does to build a big block motor. On the other hand if you have the budget for everything, the big block can then deliver an exceptional performer all around.

ALL STRAIGHT FROM LARRY... not mine ;)

SInce you said cheap... Assumption faster meaning faster off the line then cgange your gear ratio of your sprockets.

Example... go up 2 teeth count on the rear sprocket since it's the cheapest of all other options... Pending where your chain length falls, you may be ok where no need to obtain longer chain but then again....

NOTE: As somewhat mentioned, everything has pro's and cons... Change your ratios for faster off the line, loose some top end speed in gear ratio changes...

Not cheap... Larger pistons, Performance cams, upgraded carbs such as Keihin CR Specials, and head valve with P&P.... Then throw on a performance 4-1 exhaust, pods and re-jet...

I forget anything.... most likely...

Oh crap, almost did... The coil mod...
