Hey guys im a newb here can you help me? was created by chris81kz1100
Hey guys, I just got an 81 KZ1100A, it was rough when I got it. I too the fenders, tank and covers off to paint. When done painting and letting cure I put them back on fuel tank last. Hooked the lines up as I remembered them coming off, also looked on this site to make sure I was putting them in the right spots. I cant start it, I am getting a light sucking sound like its trying to drink the fuel to start but it isnt. It started right up before this. Any suggestions? Thanks!

how do you have your lines now. you should have your fuel line a vacuum line to the pet cock, and if you still have the emission crap on vacuum lines going to that. the other ones on the carbs get plugged.

well the fuel line is connected to the nipple below the airfilters between carbs 2 and 3. The vacuum is on the nipple on carb #2. I replaced the lines and fuel filter. Is it possible I have air in my line?

Assuming there is gas in the tank :)
Try putting the petcock in the PRI position to prime the carbs and see if that helps.

Does the fuel filter happen to be clear? That way you can see that the fuel is reaching the carbs. It sounds like to didn't mess with anything... you just took off the tank to paint, so it's gotta be simple. Fuel filters are designed to flow fuel in a certain direction - but, should flow at least some (less) in the "wrong" direction - check that you have in on right. And air in the lines shouldn't be a problem...

Good luck, and don't give up!

But you didn't mess with anything that would effect the spark... did you?

Not that I know of. I put drag bars on it so I relocated the gauges, removed thr gas gauge and removed the tripometer. Nothing that would stop it from starting I don't think.

Could the "kill switch" be grounding out, preventing it from starting?

Don't give up... it's something simple!

Yup. I took a look arthritis wiring diagram and noticed a wire going from the speedo to the odometer to the engine stop switch. I put the odometer back on and it fired up. I don't want the odometer though as I have no where to put it. How do you guys propose I go about this? Can I hide it somewhere or take the wire that goes to the switch and run it to a power wire?
