I just got a shaft 1979 or 1980 e2 shaft KZ1000. Will this motor work in a 1980 kz1000 LTD? Can you take the driveshaft off and switch it to a chain drive somehow? If this can be done what would it entail? I have the LTD motor but can I put the 2 together and use the shaft powerhead and not the shaft part and use the chain drivechain? thanks

Oh, and I forgot. Also the swing arm and the rear wheel assembly.

i was under the impression that you could change the shaft drive output shaft to a chain drive output shaft and get the appropriate cover's to match the chain drive then you would basically have a mk-11 engine.then you could sling that engine into any kz that took a 900 or non-j 1000 engine and roll.
feel free to correct me if i am wrong.

I have made the switch before.Take the trans and clutch backet out of the LTD and put it in the MKII shaft drive engine. Also the trans cover, shift linkge, clutch push rod.You will have to split the cases on both engines to do this.If the top end on the LTD is getting old I would just freash it up.It is a lot of work to make the switch over, but it can be done if you have the time.

If you were going to do this could you use a custom swingarm and use the rest of the shaft drive bike so that the bike looks like a MK-II with a custom arm?

I have an extra shaft drive bike sitting here and can't decide what to do with it.

I have a question about a bike like this also. Will the head bolt onto a 76 kz900?
