My head is done! was created by fordtruck
I got an email from Pit Stop Performance that my head is shipping out today! With any luck I'll have it by the weekend. I'm three months into this motor rebuild and I'm anxious to hear it run again.

Just in time for some good weather!

Did you get some nice drop in cams to go with it or what?

mark112, I had the head rebuilt. New guides, seals, surfaced, clearanced for bigger cams, and heavy duty valve springs installed. Also had him do a stage 1 port job on it.

Larry, sticking with stock cams for now. I'm way over budget as it is!!

I'm expecting the head to arrive Friday or Saturday. Sunday is my birthday, so I can't think of a better present than to hear it run! May not happen that quick, but that's ok.

Take your time putting it together.

Make sure the cam chain is on the crank sprocket.

Put the bike on the center stand or level it up if you don't have a center stand.

After you install the cams, turn the motor over 2 complete revolutions and check your timing marks again. They should like right back up.

Put oil on your cam cap bolts !!!!!!!!!!!

When you install the dowels for the cam caps, make sure the tapered part is up and put the dowels in the head, NOT in the caps.

After you fire the motor up, heat cycle it one time, then let it get stone cold and torque the head again. The nuts get loose real quick. Do it that way and you'll avoid head gasket leak issues.

Lastly..... ENJOY it and ride safe :)

When you want some nice cams for it, holler and I'll hook you up with some cams that you'll love and keep shim on top valve adjustment.

Larry, that's great advice that I will follow! Unfortunately my head hasn't arrived yet. Oh well, I've waited this long, a few more days won't kill me.
