Friend has an 81 xs1100 and I found out the jets are 119. In 78 they were 137. I drilled them to 137 (it had 110's in it) after the drilling it sounded real good. He weighs 150lbs, he takes off down the block and left solid rubber on a new tire for 50 feet then started going sideways! He turns the corner and out of sight I hear the motor rev then the brakes sliding, he said he almost lost it sideways. He couldnt resit and made to 5ft rubber marks on the driveway. That bike better not be faster than mine! It has aftermarket pipes that are wide open. I told him about the local drag strip in Sabin MN and he's all for it. I greased the wheel bearings last year and took a pic. He says the pic is probly my bearings! I'm weaning him off his harley best I can, it's a dog anyway. Tomorrow the xs and my kz tanks and body parts go in for some nice birght red paint with lots of clear. Countdown to my drivers license is 35 days and it's been 10 years. WOW! I can hardly believe it. I bought another bike a 78 1000 with 24,000 miles by one owner for 400 bucks. I'm taking the tank, side covers, speedo, tack, ignition and cover, the seat. It's sad to do that but I just can't afford to run two bikes. First thing I'm gonna do is get that front tire high in the air:woohoo: I'm just starting to get pumped, Ive been working on other peoples stuff for so long,,, it just isn't the same. :S

so are you giving it more air to go with all the new found fuel? from what i remember of the early xs1100 yamahas they ran pretty respectably as long as you kept em running

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

35 days will go quick after that long of a wait.B) I was a habitual traffic offender and did a 5 year run,:( 25 years ago. Congrats, dont get all excited and do burnouts in front of the cop shop they tend to not have a since of humor for things like that. :) :)

plummen: He said it might not have a filter in the box, I never checked inside but could hear the air rushing through it like there wasn't any filter in there. It's got the extra air it needs I guess.

An xs1100 will run much better on the leaner side. There is no 119 main jets for the xs1100 carbs. I have an 80xs1100 also and if your friend is using 137main jets it would be running extremely rich. These bikes put out more hp running on the lean side.
The earlier xs1100 carbs are different and use 137.5 main jets and the later carbs 80/81 used 110 main jets on carbs 1/4 and 115 on carbs 2/3. With a 4 into 1 and stock air box 137 mains would be way too rich. The numbers on the main jets are not drill sizes . He can find proper main jets sizes at mikesxs.com . I would say that your friend would see better results with a 125/127.5 main jet along with a 45 pilot jet.
