Sprocket Cover Stuck? was created by rellump
Hi, I've got a 1980 KZ550 and I'm trying to replace the clutch cable but the sprocket cover doesn't want to come off. I've removed the foot peg, shift pedal and the starter motor cover. However, after taking out the four bolts securing the sprocket cover...it doesn't come off. It seems "stuck" along the bottom. Even a little gentle prying doesn't seem to help. This is a very low mile bike and it's possible that the cover has never been off. Should I try pounding it with a rubber mallet?

Or perhaps a dead blow hammer. In any event, would use a leather pad to avoid marring the cover.

make double sure you have all the bolts out. also they are located with dowel pins so sometimes they will partially seize in place be gentle it will come.

Hey thanks guys....good advice....with a little persuasion the cover came off. It was the gunked up dowels that were the problem.
