Manual Cam Chain Tensioner Adjustment
19 Mar 2010 08:21
What's the correct way to adjust the manual cam chain tensioner. My KZ had one when I got it. I just adjusted the valve clearance and want to make sure it's not too tight or loose.

Do you mean the Kawasaki manual tensioner? or the APE aftermarket one? Couple weeks ago was discussion on the APE, but I would assume you have the older factory Kawasaki tensioner. If so:
Take off your right side engine ignition cover, turn the engine over slowly clockwise with a 17mm wrench or socket while looking at the timing plate, after the 2-3 timing marks pass you'll see the plate has a corner where it turns from rounded to flat, right at this point stop turning with this corner at the timing pointer, use a 10mm wrench to loosen the jamnut on the tensioner adjust bolt, loosen the bolt a turn, then tighten the bolt, tighten the jamnut, reinstall your cover and the job is done.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

No, mines an APE.
I did a search on the forum before I ever posted this topic but didn't find anything that matched.
I'll try again.
