Minimum ring gap? was created by polkat
'82 KZ750 four. The book says that the maximum piston ring gap is .7mm but gives no measurement for the minimum gap. I know that if the gap is too small, the rings can lock to the bores when they heat up. Mine range from .53mm to .58mm. Am I okay?

The rule I read when I researched this is you need at least .003" - .004" for each inch of bore diameter. In other words, if the piston is 3" diameter, the minimum ring end gap would be .009" - .012".

"Mine range from .53mm to .58mm. Am I okay? "

If my math is right that's about .021" - .023" which should be more than enough.

polkat as bountyhunter has said they look like they would be still decent to reuse right in the middle of the spec. and i use the .003-.004" per inch of bore rule myself.
