There is soo much info in there about oil that your head will spin. Plenty of MC specific stuff too. The long and the short of it is that the synth isn't really any better in most cases. You don't have any warrantee concerns, so save yourself some money.

To continue use dino, or change to synthetic. My ride has right at 30K showing on speedo, doe's not smoke, has very good compression, but po might have done a rebuild I don't know. Right now I;m using dino oil from Yamaha, and would like to know if an MC with that many miles can be changed over to synthetic without any negatives, what would be the pros and cons of a change over? thanks Duke
You can change directly to syn without flushing no worries. Main advantages of syns are that they have inherently more stable viscosity and hold up better under temp stress.

Another friend on a Vulcan told me the same thing, except he said to use a specific MC oil as car oil isn't detergent enough and will gunk things up eventually.
Im stickin w/ dino.

the guy I bought mine from told me not to use synthetic. He told me it made the bike leak at all gaskets and trashed the clutch. When I got it, he had just redone the clutch and all seals.

Your friend was wrong about synthetic MOTORCYCLE oils. However, synthetic CAR oil has friction modifiers that probably would cause clutch issues. I suggest you go to the Mobil1 link I provided above and read the description. It discusses clutch. If your bike leaks oil it will still leak oil. If it doesn't leak it won't leak. Ed
