Swapping cams, need electric tach was created by chrispysaki
I'm looking to get a set of '85 gpz750 cams for my '80 kz750, which will require converting to an electric tachometer. Does anyone know who sells these? Also, what should I use to block off the current tach drive opening in the head?

thanks,
Chris

schnitz racing sells a really nice block off plug for the tach drive i've used them a few times myself it is part no. ac1001 as far as a tach goes i really like the auto meter 5" monster tach it has i think 140000 redline it looks awesome and it's built for bikes it also has a shift light built in to it.

I've got an 83 kz750 shaftie that I may wind up parting out. It has the factory electric tach if thats what you're interested in. I have a bare head for the same bike. Totally stripped and sand blasted, it doesn't have the cable boss. pm me if interested.

The plugs from both schnitz and Z1E appear to be high quality items, but are shown for application to large fours, so am doubtful about using on KZ750, but have never tried it.

Seems the existing tach drive case could itself be plugged easily enough and left in place without using the gear shaft.

Yeah, I was thinking this might be an option. I am a cheap bastard and always prefer to do something for free if possible - and if it does the job!

It sure can be plugged for cheap. as far as the tach goes there are plenty out there. I believe they all wire up the same.

Tach - the 2 stroke guys have been using digital for years (no cams) ask your local motorcycle dealer, they will suggest something... the one I saw was tiny and could mount anywhere - it was pretty cheap also.

Drive plug - lots of cheap options... take the drive right out and make up a male plug (3 bond it in) because there is very little oil or presure up in that area. You could also take the guts out of the holder and make a plug for that also. The hole is a bit big but it can be tapped to 1/4 NPT and pluggeg with a pipe plug if you use plenty of teflon tape. I made up a copper plug for the holder on my drag bike and soldered it in with plumbing solder (more permanent)
