The noise sounds like a timing chain but that would have a automatic tentioner right ? anything else ?? It does not go away when warm stays about the same ,, Does the 550 use the Hy Vo ? chain ? its kinda annoying ? it not a rod or wrist pin I know that noise ... I cant spell tonight either ,, Shoeman

not real familiar with the model but have found that you are your best guess. meaning that it does sound like cam chain.

Shoeman, your 550 is almost identical to my 500 which is in LOTS of bits.I checked play on the primary chain and it needs replacing[>25mm].That may be your problem.
Just my 2 cents. Regards.

My guess would be primary drive chain, if it has one. 650's went to gear drive at one point in time I believe. Real bad at low idle speed? Goes "away" faster than idle.
