Bad news guys ... it doesn't help it's worse!

The clutch is slipping with the handle released!!

Must be something cheesy with the clutch!

The clutch is slipping with the handle released!

To review ---
At first the clutch was dragging even with the lever squeezed all the way in against the handlebar grip, there being insufficient adjustment available at the handlebar screw.
And now, after additional cable adjustment at mid-sheath, the clutch is now slipping with zero squeeze on the lever.

Perhaps too much cable sheath adjustment was made, whereby the inner cable (initially too long) is now too short in relation to the sheath length.

Presently, when the hand lever's squeezed, is there slight cable motion before requiring the normal stronger grip squeeze needed to disengage (separate) the clutch plates?

Or does the lever feel normal, but the clutch slips while riding?

In other words, does squeezing the lever feel like it's separating the clutch plates? And does releasing the lever feel normal except for a slipping clutch?

It might be time to perform a clutch pushrod adjustment. But even a perfect pushrod gap may be thwarted by improper cable adjustment.

Good Fortune! :)

Exactly! _BUT_ even if the cable is pulled a little bit more clutch will slip BUT i should be able to correctly engage first without hearing the gears grinding together (just my 2 cents)!!!

it might be time to perform a clutch pushrod adjustment.

Could you help me locate (or what it looks like) what is the clutch pushrod?

Someone once told me that it's the steel plates but i'm not sure...

What are you suggesting to do first?

I love some much this bike but i'm afraid each time i shift i wear the gears more than normal use!

Before reaching normal engine operating temps, most of these bikes clunk when the foot shift lever is pushed down to engage first gear.

The oil is cold and thick, and the plates are "sticking" together.

Good Fortune! :)

Assure the clutch cable itself is properly adjusted.
Ride the bike far enough to thoroughly warm up the engine (several miles).
Come to a stop, and then shift down into low gear.
Let us know what happens.
Also let us know whether or not the clutch seems to be slipping or functioning normally while riding the bike.

Good Fortune! :)

This is what I was talking about... May be different on your bike but should be something similar in nature....

This is for the KZ900 & 1000 series....
Top right corner... ;)

Now if I'm whacked on this due to don't have a manual for your bike so sorry....

Alright i will try that tomorrow.. because the hindle muffler 4 into 1 that came with it has been modified to be straight for racing (With baffle removed, this will not pass the inspection test!):O OMG so much noise my neighbors would hate me especially at night!

I've read on a forum that people put a mix ATF oil with their engine oil to eliminate the clunk and sticky clutch problem.

Keep you informed tomorrow!

Bottom left... that would be the one!
This goes in conjunction with the cable adjustments....;)

A seized engine will certainly eliminate the clunk and further worry about sticky clutches. :woohoo:

Then... all you need to worry is how to pay the towing

I guess some people try desperately everything that comes in their mind :P

Hey El, that's the correct one...pay particular attention to the direction of turn on the adjusting screw. I just adjusted my '82 KZ750-H3 using the same method after I replaced my friction plates and bead blasted my steel plates. Now I have to hold on tight when I twist the throttle hard....No more slipping! ;)
