6mm Cam Cover Bolt Stripped was created by KENN317
I have a 1977 kz1000, 4 into 1 unknown exhaust pod filters. The bike had a leaking head gasket which I fixed, While attempted to put the cams back on I noticed that the Cam Cap Bolt would just spin. After I took the bolts out I noticed what appeared to be Heli coils on some of the bolts. Will Heli coils hold the cams in place or should I redo and use Time Sert or Keensert. I want to put the bike back together as cheap as possible, and Time serts and Keen serts are very expensive. Please advise

I just put a couple helicoils into my cam towers, but I don;t know how they will be holding yet, they seem good now.

Welcome Kenn317,
This topic has been discussed at length. Use the search function. Search "cam holder bolts" and "cam tower bolts." Otherwise, you can go to the Engine section and seach manually, if you have lots of time.

I second TexasKZ...this has repeatedly been discussed on this site...however, my personal choice is to replace the ruined helicoil threads with BigSerts (6mm TimeSerts are now too small to fit into the helicoiled holes)...which are specifically designed to redo Helicoils that have failed. This has been discussed on this site. I prefer TimeSerts/BigSerts over Helicoils...but others will disagree
