valve clearance and lobe height was created by scubarod
o.k. guys i have moved past the torgue on the cam bolts and have checked my valve clearance and lobe height.as far as i can tell my lobe height is 1.415 - 1.405 can you tell me how i determine what motor i have(probably a dumb question)i have a kz1000p 2001 yr according to the clymer manual it looks good for an k,or m but i always thought this was a j-motor??i also could not get .001 in or 04mm on one of my valve clearances and i had .003in (.08mm)on 3 and .004in(.10mm)on one,and .0015in(.04mm)on one,.002in(.06mm)on one,.005in(.13mm)on the last one!so i will be moving shims but i noticed on the one with no tolerance a little discoloration but still got 1.414 on the lobe height.

how you get the lift measurement is measure the width of the base circle and subtract that from overall height of the cam.

all motors from 1981 on are called j motors but they are set up differently for the different types of chassis standards or what they call the j has the highest lift cams except of course the gpz the spectre , csr , ltd and apperently the cop bike has the lowest lift cams
