Valve lifter 'bucket' stuck!! was created by polkat
Rebuilding my 750 in my KZ750H3. Was dis-assembling the head today and got all the 'buckets' off the valve spring retainers...except the very last one. Isn't that always the way it is?!

Anyway, it's stuck hard. I usually use a strong magnet to get these out, but it won't budge. It won't even turn with fingers. It's hard stuck (probably some grit in there), so I thought before I take some serious (most likely damaging) action on it, I'd ask here what others have done?? I'd like to save it if I could.

Find an old computer hard-drive and bust it open.
(Any old computer shop will have some crap drives or magnets)
Inside, you will find 2 incredibly strong neodynium magnets that will pull that sucker bucket right out.

You can blast it with a torch for a few seconds first, then spray some penetrant all around the bucket, that should do it!

Good luck!

soak it down with zep45 then get an olddeep socket about same size to sit on top and smack the end of socket a couple times with a bfh! B)

I'd hose it with Kroil and let it sit overnight and see if that loosens it up.

Yea, that's the kind of magnet I use. Not even close this time. I'll let it soak for a while in penatrant and see if that helps.

I like the socket idea Plummen.

Soak it. Swear at it for a couple minutes. Smack it!

That'all likely do it!!

valve spring pressure should push it back up once it goes down to free it up B)

Got it by Q-Bonding two strong magnets to the top. When dry, I was just able to wiggle it loose before the bond gave up. Cleaned it up with acetone. Can't find the reason it stuck (no marks).

In a related question, how have you guys modified standard valve spring compressors to fit on top of the spring retainer in these heads (which are mostly surrounded head material)? I was thinking about taking a 1" pvc junction, cutting the sides out (to get to the valve locks) and sticking that between the compressor and spring retainer.

Other ideas?
