Exhaust Compatability was created by Big_Wheel
I have a 1984 KZ750 ltd that has an exhaust leak down right at the 2-into-1 connection. Previous owner did some 'handy' work down there and its pretty hacked. I have a lead on an exhaust from a 1982 KZ750(N1) Spectre exhaust. It looks like it might fit. Does anybody know for sure? Thanks for the help.

The header pipes will fit...virtually all the 750(4) and 650 models can interchange header pipes...however, where differences exist might be in how the mufflers hang on the frame...you might have to fabricate a different hanger system.

Thanks for the help! I am planning on using my header pipes then using the new 2-to-1 junctions I get from the Spectre exhaust. I shouldn't have a problem fabricating new mounts. Thanks again.

You may have to use the entire Spectre system rather than just portions of it. Mix-and-match between the 1984 and 1982 exhaust systems may not work well.

Hijack!!

What about using a 1000 exhaust on a 650? How close is the spacing? Do-able?

What makes it not do-able? The spacing is out? Seems strange since the intake spacing is the same.

You know, it may be I have not looked at the issue from using a larger cc exhaust on a smaller cc motor. The bends on the 650/750 exhaust prevent the pipes from mating to the 900/1000 head properly...but, the bends on a 900/1000 set of headers are larger (more distance between bends) and so they might fit on a smaller cc motor...hmmm.

Do you mean the distance between the ports and the bottom of the engine?

The reason why I ask is that i have a yosh, presumably from a big engine, and I plan to try to fit it onto my kz650. I'd mock it up on the bike this weekend but the whole bike is sort of in pieces. Maybe I'll bring it into the city and see if HerrDeacon wants to use his 650 for a guinea pig...
