Thanks everybody for your recent help. If ya know the story, bike's been sitting for quite some time. She fires and idles good, but dies instantly when putting her in gear. I disabled clutch canceller years ago (touch both leads to handlebars to start). Separated all clutch plates today. She'll only run in gear while clutch cancellor wires are taped to handlebars. Help, please. (If you could see all the "excess" wiring hanging off her, you'd know I don't care what I gotta do to get her back on the road!)

Sounds like you need a wiring diagram and a few cold ones. Without a wiring diagram you are destined for for more cold ones to ease the pain. :) :)

Thanks, Kaw... The cold ones aren't the problem - got me a keg-r-ater w/a nice IPA. Got the Owner's Manual wiring diagram (kills me to spend $80 on shop manual). What's your opinion on that - accurate (diagram, I mean)? I can see taping wires together, but why do I have to ground them on handlebars?

You should be able to find a FSM cheaper than $80. you may be able to find one for a download for free
The owners manual diagram should be accurate I would think.
I couldnt tell you why you have to ground them to the handle bars. You may have to do some tracing and chasing to see what was done before.

the owners manual wiring diagram should cover the basics...should be accurate....as far as grounding to the bars, you should be able to ground them on anything metal on bike....a ground is a ground....

Ebay is the place to find your FSM. I looked and there are a lot of police manuals but none for an 87, everything but and 87. Check there every couple o days and you will find one. The most expensive one I saw was $44 but most are around $25. Worth every penny.

Try going to this website...

search.ebscohost.com/Login.aspx?lp=login...mail&authtype=ip,uid

For user type: indianhead
For password type: trial

Then click on small engine repair, then click on motorcycles, then click on Kawasaki. Now you can see if the manual for your bike is listed. You can download these manuals, or sections of the manual, but it takes forever, and some of the pages are slightly cut off. The images are dark too, but heck, it's free.
