Lets get to the bottom of Piston Rings! was created by Scatdrat
HI again all!!!
Thank you all for the wealth of knowledge that I have been reading all day and thank you for all the help y'all have been in my previous topics.
Despite several past topics coming upon the question, I have not been satisfied.
My question is simple. What are the options in replacing the STD 62mm piston rings found in the KZ650 without boring it out?
This size, as all know, is in short supply. I myself am trying to collect a full set of NOS, but I did see a reference in another post to alternate 62mm rings.

Any takers?

those rings may work but what you will have to do is match upthe thickness of each individual ring and how deep they are in order to be sure, e-mail him and ask for those measurments and don't tell him why so that he will give you an honest answer not info taken out of a service manual.

Ma Kaw says KZ650 rings are still available. Part #13008-059. Not cheap at about $54 bucks X 4, but still less then boring + new rings. Try Z1E or Ron Ayers. Ed

std rings for the 650s are not aval, I bought a set on fleabay a few years back, wasnt cheap.
I had talked to jeff about finding some and at that time nobody he knew of was making them, even tried a custom ring mfg, talk about knock your socks off.
I am of the opinion now, if your gonna rebuild the 650, go ahead and bore it out, new pistons, rings, and cyls, best way to go
