tach doesn't work,how can i test if its the cable or tach so i don't have to buy both.

unhook the cable from the tach and start the motor if it spins its the tach unless its electric

Remove the engine end of the cable and attach it to a drill, then spin away. Careful of the direction of the drill, forward or reverse, don't know firsthand which way it's supposed to go. Look at the cable while doing the cable test:"unhook the cable from the tach and start the motor if it spins ", to check for direction. You can use a spare cable if you don't want to disconnect the engine end.
