Shorter Clutch Cable was created by Capt806dfd
I am planning on a jockey shift on my KZ650 bobber, the problem I am runnin into is finding a shorter clutch cable. I have looked inbto having one made but they are crazy expensive.(I am trying to finish this bike on a limited budget due to a baby soon to be arriving.)Does anyone know how to shorten the stock cable?
Andy

Did you check w MotionPro? From what others have reported their pricing for a custom made cable isn't too bad - perhaps around $40(?). maybe?

Check with them at Z1, let them know the size you need, they may have something that will work

A decent shop should be able to make you one for roughly the same price as a pre made one. If they are charging significantly more, look for another shop.

How much shorter do you need the cable to be? You mentioned a jockey shifter so I assume pretty short?

Motion Pro would be my first choice as well. Their Website provides an easy way to measure what they need to replicate with your new requirements.

KZ750R1 + 1991 ZR750 = KZR750R1

I had custom cables made by Motion Pro and they were not expensive. When i built my GPz1100 with the bars I wanted i required a cable which was about 4" shorter. I just told them which cable of theirs worked and how much shorter I wanted it and it was done. I had them make three for me. The first cable now has 2 years on it and is still like new.

Im guessing I need a cable around 36"
Another question- will the voltage regulator from a kz400 work for my 650B?

Don't guess on the cable length. The simplest and most accurate way to figure out EXACTLY the length is.
1) Mount your existing cable to your clutch and engine.
2) Route the cable exactly how you want it.
3) Adjust mid point adjuster to 1/3 out.
4) Adjust adjuster on clutch lever all the way in.
5) Hold cable housing next to clutch lever at proper angle.
6) Mark cable at where end should be.
7) Remove cable and measure housing.
8) Call motion pro and tell them the length of housing.
