Web Cams Hardweld or New? was created by Gman
I was looking at Web's website and noticed they have the #110s listed as 'Hardweld' or 'New'. The hardweld cams are quite a bit more expensive. These cams are .395 lift so they are not radical. Can anyone tell me what application would need the hardweld cams? I'm looking for cams for my 1015cc 10.25 to 1 street motor. Thanks.

"Hard weld" requires quite a bit more work for them and are more durable than standard. Unless you plan on torturing your bike, I wouldn't bother. They are imperative for drag racing where you run very light oils for max horsepower output, at very high Revs, also using very hard valve springs. The 110 grind will do just fine in the standard grind. If you run standard motor oil with enough ZDDP the standard cams are just fine. Web has a very good and knowledgeable customer service. You can call them up and they will talk to you and let you know. They did a set of hard welds for me for my KZ1300 engine, but that was because they do not make stock cams for that. They wound up charging me about $600 for those. If you are going to use the 110 grind on that bike I would suggest you do some serious head work. Because that head is quite lame in the stock format, you will never be able to use, what the 110 cams can deliver, and will still have to do quite a bit of grinding on the lobe channels. If you do not port that head and use larger valves you are wasting your time with the 110 grind. The 118 grind is about the max you can "drop" into a stock head, and can still be used to max advantage. Going from stock .337I/.296E cams, the 118 grind is an enormous jump. You will find it will be much cheaper in the long run. the 118 grind will drop right into the motor.

Otakar,
Thanks for the explanation. Standard cams it is. The head is an old Fink's Racing flowed head with stock valves. I'm running 29s on it. I did put new APE springs in it so I could run hotter cams. I'm just shopping right now.
