I agree with Nebr_Rex...I also just set mine deeper for the dowel holes. As an aside, if you are replacing helicoils that pulled out, you'll have to use Big-serts instead of Time-serts. If the threads are stripped for the first time, then use Time-serts.
What he just said.
Helicoils are the work of the DEVIL and must NEVER be used on anything you own. Timeserts and Bigserts are the way to go!!!!!!!:woohoo:
If you cant fix it with a Hammer....... it's gotta be an Electrical problem...

Note that the J motors are notorious for stripping cam cap bolts. Interestingly, we have been discussing this same issue on www.kz1000r.com and as was pointed out by a member (from the Z1 Owners Group (UK)) it is likely the cam cap torque specs for the J motors are incorrect in all the manuals. The torque specs are listed as 12 ftlbs...this exceeds the torque specs for a automotive-grade M6 bolt. The torque for a J motor cam cap bolt should be between 8 and 9.5 ftlbs...the UK folks have been doing this for quite some time and the cam cap stripping has more or less stopped.

Maybe it's luck, maybe sometimes the helicoil is installed wrong sometimes, I don't know, but they work just fine. You'll never strip a helicoil as it's stainless steel. Also 12ft/lb is way too much for any 6mm bolt. I don't care what the manuals say, you'll strip them all at 12ft/lb. Isn't it like 5.5ft/lb on your basic 6mm bolt otherwise? I stay there and they will strip at 5.5 even sometimes. Oops I forget, don't use ft/lb, tighten to 66in/lb. Much better.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

that's where I got mine, they were quick as the name says, and they didn't cost much either,m and they shipped to canada for cheap too.
