My oil rings were the 3 piece which are a lot easier than the one piece oil ring. I do have Snap On ring compressors for my car engines of which I have done a lot of. On car engines I know the Snap On type is much easier than the regular cheapy ring compressor. The idea of using a a zip tie (big fat one) makes good sense. Anyways mine is done, and is the first 4 cylinder bike I have done. Last car engine I did I hammered on it for 5 years on the strip and street running 11:60's on motor. Man I miss my old 71 Nova.

i've seen the piston with rings , inserted into the barrels then slide the barrels on and insert pins and clips (buttons are even easier). the guy put the motor on end, so he could slide the barrels on, from and upward angle.:side:

the biggest thing is get a friend to help, four hands around the rings is cake and cuts the time by 3/4, tap tap tappy with th palm of your hand it will go. I always do 2and 3 first so one and 4 are not in your way for 2 and 3.

I wouldn't advise doing this if you haven't before, or at least seen it done before. Get just one ring wrong and you've got trouble.

found out that pulling the pistons off the crank shaft was super easy. Since I have done this on a car before I decided this was the way to go. Still haven't gotten it all back together thanks to cold weather and no heater in the shop. Really sucks because we don't know how to deal with 19 degrees in TX. Should be doing it all sometime next week.

Hey noob! Here is my noob friendly thread. On page 6 I show my wooden forks that I used to hold up pistons 2 and 3 while I put the cylinders down.

If this is your first time, unlike other things for your first time, it will take a while, so don't weat it. You will likely be doing the same thing over and over, but you will get it.
