Fram Blowwwwwwsssss. Just kidding. I haven't used them since about 1992. I have read that the Tough Guard series is good.

Actually, if you want to know about filters, here's the place to go. Over 6000 threads worth of reading.

My reasoning for using Emgo is that it is actually pretty difficult to find a filter here for my bike. I've ridden about 25,000 miles this year and change my oil about every 2000 miles I was using the Fram but Walmart stopped carrying them. I wanted K&N but Cycle Gear doesn't carry them for my bike and if the part stores have the filter they don't have the oil I want or vice versa so it is just more convenient for me to keep a couple of Emgo's on hand, buy my oil by the case and change my oil more often.

Why not just order some K&N filters and have them on hand when you need them?

Just out of curiosity.... & Please don't get me wrong here for I'm all 4 paying a little extra for quality components... ;)

The KZ oil passage design incorporates several features such as oil filter bypass if clogged and an oil sensor switch if pressure is not within specification....

See image, 2nd paragraph.

With these features in mind, how did we blow up/seize an engine due to a Fram oil filters?

Interesting concept, but cleaning them sounds like a messy job. Seems like you would need to pressurize the inside of the filter with clean oil to "backflush" the screening material. But where and how you do that without making a mess is beyond me, and then you've contaminated and wasted the backflushing oil. If you used a solvent or hot soapy water to clean them you would need to somehow purge it all from the nooks and crannies of the filter or it would end up in your engine. They cost as much as a dozen K&N's; before I cleaned one of them a dozen times the novelty would have worn off and I would be back to using disposable filters (but that's just the way I am - lazy). I wonder if the filter comes with cleaning recommendations. Ed

Have no idea, probably a solvent container, soak and then rinse I guess... Just came across them and considering this topic, figured I ask...

Personally, filter change every other 3K miles so I'll stick with the normal filters as well...

Wix brand filters, NAPA right... Do they come with the rubber drain plug & large filter plate O-rings?

Had a buddy buy a 08 cbr 1000 right off the showroom floor. We did he first oil change and used a fram motorcycle filter. Started it up, it was knocking.. knocking.. KNOCK..KNOCK..KNOCK.KNOCK. The top end was getting starved quickly, we took the fram off and got a new one. Yep, got a defective oil filter. Don't use Fram SHIT!

Heres a very good article regarding oil filters
