Ideas on Engine Case Cleaning. was created by dshelly
Hi,all
I'm doing an engine overhaul on a '74 Z1 Motor. I Have the cases split. So Now I'm wondering the best and most effective way to get the cases clean. They are pretty oil stained. Any chemical cleaners? something that won't turn the aluminum black? Thanks

I am dabbling in this right now. I will be using a soda blast on the rougher areas (cylinder block fins, oil pan, etc). I will polish all covers that are smooth (sprocket cover, dynamo cover, point cover, etc).

Palmolive, deep scrubbers, power washer.
A nice self-etching primer.
Then metallic-silver paint.
Then a two part high heat clear.
Done.
Cheers, good luck!
