As I search around for engine parts... was created by newOld_kz1000
So I have been watching eBay and CL for engine parts I need to refurb my 1978 kz1000 (engine covers for both sides, exhaust system, etc.) and I have noticed a real surprise.

The kz1000s aren't selling at all on eBay. You will see a used stock seat sell for $200-$300, but a kz1000 will get bid up to, say, $500 or $700 and not hit the reserve.

It seems like people don't want to buy the kz1000, only the 72-75 Z1.

I saw a used high-mileage (32k miles) 1974 Z1 go for over $4600 but a really nice '78 kz1000 with only 28k miles get bid up to only $710 and not meet the Reserve.

Is this a dichotomy?

PLUMMEN nailed it right on the head. The Z1's are far more collectable than the KZ1000's (1977/1978)...I'll be selling both my KZ1000A1's and I'll not break even on what I'll have in them :(

As long as it cleans up nice and runs, put it on eBay for a BIN of US$2800 and it'll sell.

awesome, wow i had no idea that the z1's specifically were so sought after. until i found that out i was just going to use the crank in my kz1000. i already put the vance and hines on it.

Sounds like good news to me.
After not riding for 18 yrs,and finally deciding to clean up my 1000 and jam.
Finding cheap parts is a real gas.
I hope it stays that way.
