the powdercoating guy talked me into experimenting with some thermal coating on my engine, like that was hard to do!:woohoo: hes coating my intake ports ,combustion chambers, valve faces and piston domes with some stuff thats supposed to reflect heat back into combustion chamber, hes coating piston skirts with something to make them smooth as glass he says, and i says cool!ill measure pistons once theyre done so i can hone cylinder to match.ive heard about these coatings but ive never seen them used before so this will be a learning experiance for me,has anyone else ever used this stuff?

Back when I cared about such things, Diesel Injection of Pittsburgh was using those types of coatings on the 1000+ hp diesel motors they built (for over the road trucks).

Check out this place for more info on high performance coatings.

Hey wireman.

Is that thermal coating you're having done similar/the same as what folks are using inside their chrome motorcycle exhausts to help prevent bluing?

348 with 3 deuces, I had one of those in a 58 Chevy convertible when I was a kid :)
But the one I drooled over was my buddy's 65 Impala SS with a 409, 425 hp motor. :D

Rx4.. the exaust ceramic coatings and the internal are diffrent, the exaust material is a water based product the internal is actually a molten product that is sprayed. Here is a link to a description of how the latter is applied.
