1977 KZ 650 B1.....my chain broke was created by oldkaws4ever
So on my way home from work tonight my chain snapped on my 77 650b1. It took out everything under the sproket cover, bent the chain guide and ripped it off by the front sproket, cracked the mission cover, and bent and snapped the clutch pushrod. Does anybody have a spare mission cover, and a clutch push rod for the 77 kz 650b1 laying around? I was wondering if the clutch push rod rom a z1 900 or kz 400 was the same? Thanks in advance guy's. Jim

What caused it to break? Rust, bad master link, wear? What brand is it and is it o-Ring or plain? Ed

Thanks patton. no im fine luckly i didnt go down. Ed, im not sure what caused it to break, but after looking at it, the left side chain adjuster was pushed up, and the bolt was bent. The chain was awfull loose when i left work though.......i wonder if someone messed with it.

Damn the bad luck. I had that happen one time and the chain wrapped around the counter sprocket grenaded the cases and busted the carb bowl which then caught on fire. Not a good feeling having fire coming up on both sides of the tank between my legs, I dismounted while still moving and watched my bike on fire roll to a stop and fall :(
The bike was a total loss. I hope you find the parts you need to get her going again. Did you get any injuries from the mishap?

I'm glad damage was only to machine as if that wasn't bad enough though. I'm curious too as to the cause. Chains used to break back in the early 70s like the old CB750 Honda. I never heard of a KZ650 breaking with the stock or replacement oring chains. Pretty tough to break them.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I probably have everything you need except chain and sprockets. I'm in Canada.

I'm not out to make a bunch of $ off this. I have the mission cover, chain guide, and clutch push rod which I just removed from the bike (77 kz650c which I am parting out. See classifieds). Shipping shouldn't be too much. It is probably best to send it by Canada Post. My experience with UPS is that they hold it hostage for "brokerage fee". Make me an offer and it's yours.
