Hello all, been a member for a while but not a big poster, love your attitude to all things Z, mine is like a time machine, it transports me back to simpler times i reckon!

My question for you is related to my Kz900, i am fitting a 1075 kit and 118 web cam but will have to stick with 26 carbs until more money available, what sort of horsepower can i expect without porting and what sort of carbs do you reckomend? I want power 3500 to 8000max rpm.

regards,
Kt.

goodness, not that I know anything, or that it's my place to say, but I think your bike deserves to stay a virgin! I mean look at it!

Stock exhaust, stock gearing & tires, no head work, 26mm carbs with your build..... Somewhere in the mid 90's be a safe guess...

I'm not going to quess on HP figures. if you can get your hands on a set of 29 Mikunis that would be great.

I have used VM28 carbs on my 1075 with Andrews 3x cams and they worked good. I now run BS 34's.

Nice bike. Roy

This is a very good combination. If you port the heads and install a good set of BS34s you will get very good power. the 118 cams are a very good cam for the street. The BS34s will allow you to burn the available fuel much more efficiently. A well set up set of BS34s are as good if not better as a set of 31mm Smooth Bores. If you port the head you should be able to get about 95+ Hp with the BS34s. You can get a set of those on eBay for around a $100. Make sure you get a set from a KZ1000 or KZ1100. They have much better needles in them. If you get a set from a 750, they will be too lean unless you spend another $60 for needles. The porting and the carburetors will do more than the cams. Due to the fact that the intake ports will not be sufficient to supply the air that your cams can deliver into the chamber.

THANKYOU so much for your replies guys, i really appreciate it. I am on a budget, arent we all, i may have to stick to colleting the parts and save some more $$$, i would really like the porting as well so will just have to wait i guess. I would like to send the port work to Larry Cavanagh but am a bit nervous sending a head all the way from Australia, might look into it though or Larry may know someone he would recommend down here, I understand he sells equipment to Australian businesses.

I apologize on the "bodgy" photo, i could not for some reason upload the picture of my bike and i wanted a pic of a similar one so grabbed one from somewhere, will have to try again.

i just tore it down to freshen up the head after 20,000 hard street miles and other than some minor damage to 1 and 2 pistons i'll be putting this motor right back together once i get some rings it will get another 20,000 miles i'm sure. it is getting a fresh paint job as well the engine that is the body is still good.

Here's my selection for your bike. It's about strong power in the RPM range you ride most with plenty left over to scare yourself with if you want to.

If you're going to have the head off and apart, skip the 118 grind and get the 483 grind instead. You'll have to clearance the tappet bores a little and remove the X's from the valve cover. Get springs too.

A lot of BS34 fans around this place but I'm not one of them .

Good carbs ain't cheap and cheap carbs generally aren't good.....

Save some money and get a rack of Kehin CRS29 with the following jetting.

120 Main Jets [also get some 115's]
55 Slow Jets
35 Starter Jets
YY7 Needles
