It was mentioned in another thread that some people cap off the clean-air vacuum intakes that go to the exhaust side of the valve cover. Does this make any difference in performance, engine life, or anything else that might matter — other than the amount of emissions coming from my tailpipe?

Most of the time they are not working to start with so I would think maybe a little better performance would be seen , but in any event a good tune up would help also

Something to remember: If you remove the "clean air" system, chrome pipes (especially new ones) will blue very easily and rapidly at thier first bend from higher exhaust temp.

To prevent this!: Spray a few cotes of VHT high heat header paint down inside the pipes, and it will reduce the blueing effect dramatically. ;)

Good luck,

Cheers.

Thanks for the offer, Travis. How much do they go for? By the way, I'm loving your build. Definitely some impressive work there.

The bike will run pretty much the same except you may notice less popping when letting off the throttle as the unburned fuel is not being ignited by the introduction of fresh air. Of course it also cleans up the motor area. Mine have been deactivated for over 20 years. :)
