kz 1000, 1100 questions was created by mach1charlie
I ride an 1996 kz 1000 police bike, its my daily rider has 75,000 miles on her and she smokes some on deaceleration.

So, I am thinking about pistons and rings, a little porting head clean up, maybe slip in some gpz cams from ebay.

Will 1100 jugs fit into my 1000 cases with out machine work?

How far (mm) can I bore 1100 jugs?

Or can I bore my 1000 jugs to std. 1100 size ?

Thanks
Charlie

id say 1075 on the 1000 block,1170 on the 1100.youll have to clearance your cases for the 1100 sleeves i think.but as always check with craigy/greggy at arai/69/lovetrianglelaguna just to be sure, ive been wrong a lot lately! B)

please correct me if i'm wrong. at some point during the 1980's the police bike motor changed over to the "j" motor and ran until Kawasaki stopped production. the elr was a 1000cc "j" motor in 1982. will a "j" 1100cc block fit in a cop motor case, i can't say for sure. others??

Yes it is a J motor. That just means that you need to buy pistons for a J motor not the older KZ. The 1075 kit is a good size for the 1000 (998 std). If you can come up with a set of 1089 (J motor 1100) cylinders they can be bored more.

Check out the KZZONE at APE for more information.

I did exactly just the same thing on my 1000CSR motor. The 1100 jugs drop right in. I highly recommend against the 1170 pistons because the wall thickness will be less than 1mm. I went to 1150 with custom pistons but the 1135 is the perfect choice and totally reliable. You will be able to run the bike without an oil cooler with no problem.

You are incorrect about the 1170 kit being less than .040" wall thickness in an 1100 block.

Sorry, I meant to say that you will have less than 1.5mm My outside sleeve diameters at the lower skirts measure 77.78mm the bore would be 75mm with the 1166 kit. No reputable rebuilder would recommend less than .060" for reliable street use. This is one of the reasons that MTC has not offered this option. It is not worth the risk. This is exactly the same reason why the 1075 kit is much more popular than the 1103 kit, on the 1000cc blocks. Issue is reliability.
