Permatex Grey - gasket maker was created by JR
This is probably a dumb question. I have this tube of Permatex Grey gasket maker and was wondering if I can us it to mate the valve cover to the cylinder head - ie instead of a gasket...........or should I just go ahead and buy the valve cover gasket ?

buy a gasket and a can of spray on copper coat to glue it to valve cover .but as the legal dept keeps reminding me you should clear all posts/techno stuff through trianglelaguna and arai59 aka greg and craig enterprises to be safe B)

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

Yes!!! Buy a gasket and the copper spray. You will thank yourself. Just had to re-do an oil pan. Second time I used the copper and it is nice! No worries! ;)

Probably been mentioned numerous times before, but use a gasket for sure. Whatever you do don't seal both sides. It makes for a huge mess next time. Do it dry, use a decent gasket and if surfaces are clean it won't leak, otherwise use the seal on the engine side only, leave the valve cover side dry and the cover comes right off from then on out and can be reused.

Thanks gentlemen. Ma Kaw gasket ordered from the local dealer. It will probably cost me and arm and a leg but at least it will be here on Wednesday. Not many riding days left up here and if the weather holds I just might make it to Port Dover on Friday the 13th

Don't feel too bad for the price, I have a Zephyr 750 and the gasket is about $40.00. The less expensive KZ750/650 won't fit properly because the Zephyr valve cover mimicks the Z900.

The Zeph gasket is impregnated with graphite, which is an excellent sealer. Manual says apply it dry. The problem is when you want to remove it, leaves residues on the surfaces very hard to scrape. You don't need to help the sealing, but need something to make it easier to remove. Even non-stick cooking oil would help. I usualy lube it with moly grease.
