spring and detent for kickstarter kz650 was created by paul_the_welder

The kickstarter on my new bike is missing this. Can I get this part anywhere. I have it held tight by a little bungy cord at the moment.

Take a look at the parts list at Kawasaki.com then look on eBay. Here are some examples that may or may not fit yours.

where are you located. I can give you the kicker gear I just pulled out of my motor.
