You should look into timeserts (do a search on this site). Folks here say they are superior to helicoils. Ed

I am replacing many of my camcap bolt threads on my 1100 (which were heli-coiled by the PO) with time serts (Big serts). They (helicoils) have a tendency to pull out...eventually.

my theory(however flawed :) )has been to use heli-coils first then when they pull out,go to timeserts, when they fail, stepped studs when they fail, weld it up and re-machine.i could be overthinking things here tho perhaps.:woohoo: you would prolly never have to mess with timeserts again tho,if you went that way.helicoils if installed right and used carefully can last a while.i have 21 helicoiled holes in the head on my 1980 z1r,so far so good.i do figure to have to address them at some point tho.here is a link to timeserts, looks like i was wrong about the thread pitch should be 1. not 1.125.

heli coils will last damn near forever, IF you will put some type of lube on the bolt when you install it, the coils are made from SS and can "seize" on the bolt.
Thats the main reason the fail, or pull out at some point.
The same can be said for any bolt that goes into alum or SS.
