Clutch, transmission or what?? was created by clutch
So I decided to go for a ride on my 82 kz750 e3 before work today since it was nice out. I got a few miles before I realized my front brakes were sticking. Stopped at the nearest auto store to fix the issue and resumed my ride. I probably rode for another 30.minutes and decided to stop at a store. Turning into the shopping center, I downshifted to first, heard a slight grinding noise and quickly realized I had no drive system.

So I parked the bike and went to work. Now its almost 4 am and I am sitting here waiting for the AAA tow. Anyone have a theory about what may have happened? The clutch has been slipping a bit lately in the higher rpms, so that's what I think it is. Anyone have another theory?

If not already done, could perform clutch pushrod adjustment.
And also adjust slack in clutch cable.

Any teeth remaining on the rear drive sprocket?

Good Luck! :)

Your countershaft sprocket nut has come off and the sprocket slid off the splines. Common problem. Happens from using aftermarket sprockets that have no provision for the safety lock tab washer.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

like ron said check the slack in the drive chain if it seems like it quite a bit excessive pull off the sprocket cover and check your front sprocket it probably has come off quite a comman thing actually.

Ok. I will definitely check the engine sprocket. The rear sprocket is fine. I did run into an issue dissasembling the clutch to check everything on that side. How do you hold the inner hub still to remove the clutch hub nut? The pressure plate, springs, and plates are all ok but figured I would have a good look behind if I can get the darn thing off!!! I did manage to pick up the proper 30mm socket to remove the nut, but none of y vice grips or anything else I have will hold the hub still to remove it!!!!

RIGHT ON THE MONEY! Now I just need to find a replacement nut or three and figure out how to get the clutch hub and basket out to replace the basket I broke (trying to remove that darn clutch hub nut!) with the good one in my spare engine!!!

thebest way to hold the basket is with a clutch hub holder from motion pro also don't try using a ratchet or breaker bar on it use an impact gun either air or electric the shock from the gun will break it loose and all you will need is to hold it with your hand. and when your putting the nut back on the output shaft sprocket or the clutch hub clean the threads real well and put red lock tight on the threads it will make it tougher to fall off next time also check the nut from time to time. i always carry an extra nut with me if i'm racing or going on a long trip. just for occasions such as this.

Where do you get the nuts? I can't find them anywhere online other than BikeBandit.com (whom I don't shop from anymore).

Clutch holder tool. Looks like a big pair of vise-grips with right angle ends on them.
